The Summer Food Service Program

The Summer Food Service Program was created in 1976 to ensure that children in low income areas could continue to receive nutritious meals during the summer months when school breakfasts and lunches are not available. At approved sites, children and teenagers, 18 years and younger, can receive breakfast and lunch. Persons over 18 years old who have been determined mentally or physically handicapped and who participate in the National School Lunch Program during the school year are eligible to continue to receive meal benefits.

Since the responsibility of feeding our students, does not take a summer vacation, the Baltimore City Public Schools partner with The Baltimore City Department of Housing to make sure that our students can still receive a nutritious meal during the summer. Throughout the City, there are many sites that provide summer meals. The recreation sites are run by the Housing Department and students attending summer school are all entitled to a meal. To find a summer site near you, call 1-877-731-9300 or www.MDSUMMERMEALS.org
