Why was The Breakfast Club started?

The Baltimore City Public School System (BCPSS) is committed to preparing the whole child for being ready to learn and therefore, has been expanding the school wide breakfast program for the last three years. Last school year, The Breakfast Club expanded the Program to include all elementary and all middle and pre-K to 8 schools. This year, the program includes all high schools. Eating a healthy breakfast each morning helps prepare young minds and bodies for a productive day of learning.  Breakfast at school saves time and money, and students enjoy eating breakfast with their friends.

Who can participate in The Breakfast Club?

All BCPSS students who arrive at school early for breakfast can participate in The Breakfast Club.

How much does breakfast cost?

There is no charge for any BCPSS student who wants to eat breakfast and arrive to school early enough to do so

What time will breakfast be served?

The Breakfast Club starts 15 – 30 minutes before the school day begins.  Check with your school to learn more about its breakfast menu and schedule.

What does my student have to do?

Just arrive at school early for breakfast each morning. After each student receives breakfast, he or she will enter his or her personal PIN number into the school’s computer system for meal accountability.

What will be served for breakfast?

A choice of cereal, or another cold or hot food item, such as yogurt, breakfast Hot Pockets, waffles, cheese toast, fruit bars, breakfast egg pizzas, bagels, fruit juice, milk, Graham crackers.

We submitted a meal application, and my child is currently paying full price.  Does he still have to pay for breakfast?

All BCPSS students will receive a healthy, nutritious breakfast at NO CHARGE when they arrive early to school, regardless of their ability to pay.

When will The Breakfast Club end?

The program is ongoing. It will continue as long as students have a desire to eat a healthy, nutritious breakfast at school everyday.

What about lunch? Will children who now pay for lunch still have to pay?

Yes. At lunch time, reduced students will stay pay $.40, and full price elementary and middle students will pay $2.00 and high school students pay $2.25.
