Parent  Engagement Policy

A Parent teaching his two children  Current research shows that when families are involved in their   children's education they have better attendance, demonstrate positive   attitudes and behaviors, complete more homework, earn better grades,   receive higher test scores, graduate from high school at higher rates,   and are more likely to enroll in higher education than students with less   involved families. The evidence is clear: Family involvement promotes   school achievement and helps students better prepare for their future.
To encourage positive collaboration between the family and school,   BCPSS Office of Parent Involvement and School, Family, Community   Connections encourages and supports family engagement programs in   all schools that help families to participate more fully in the educational     lives of children.

With the support of committed principals, teachers, parents and community members, every school develops its individualized parent involvement program aligned with the Family and Community Engagement Policy, the No Child Left Behind legislation (NCLB) and researched-based best practices.

An increased level of parental/family engagement in all schools creates responsive and inviting school cultures with measurable improvement in student attendance rates, student achievement, and appropriate student behaviors.

BCPSS adopted its Family and Community Engagement Policy in 2004 in partnership with parents, educators, and community members. The policy is reviewed and assessed annually by all stakeholders in accordance with NCLB.
