Kalman R. Hettleman

Kalman R. Hettleman, an independent education policy analyst and advocate, has provided consultant services in the past to community organizations, foundations, and the Baltimore City Public School System. His recent work includes policy studies and advocacy on early identification and intervention, “ reading by nine,” student promotion/retention policies, and special education.
In the field of education, Mr. Hettleman has had numerous and varied experiences. He served as a member of the Baltimore City School Board from 1971-1974, and an education aide to two of Baltimore City’s mayors. |
As executive director of a demonstration program to reduce dropout rates among inner city Baltimore students and co-founder of the Success for All school reform program, Mr. Hettleman endeavored to improve educational opportunity for at-risk students. He has published numerous reports and articles on school reform.
Mr. Hettleman has also served in other social welfare positions. He was Maryland Secretary of Human Services and Director of the Baltimore City Department of Social Services, a teacher of social policy at several campuses of the University of Maryland, and a public interest lawyer in national and local programs.
He is a graduate of the Baltimore City Public School System as are his wife and four children. |
