The Elementary School
Roland Park Elementary School serves students in kindergarten through 5th grade in its residential zone. The elementary program follows Common Core State Standards and Maryland’s Voluntary State Curriculum (VSC). Language arts classes use the Direct Instruction and the balanced literacy methods. Math classes use the My Math curriculum in grades K through 2 and use a combination of Common Core and VSC in grades 3 through 5. In addition, the school provides instruction in writing, social studies, science, fine and visual arts, vocal and instrumental music, physical education, and Spanish language.
A hand-picked staff of highly gifted teachers creates the joy of learning that permeates the halls and classrooms of the elementary school. Through partnerships with Goucher College and the Maryland Institute College of Art, many classes have interns who work side-by-side with mentor teachers as part of an internship required for their school’s education degree.Additional information about Maryland’s Voluntary State Curriculum and the new Common Core State Standards can be found at the following websites:
