    Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! I am Ms. Wu, students call me Wu Lao Shi in Chinese. I will be working closely with your child in 3rd Grade Chinese Immersion as the homeroom teacher.

For parents that do not yet know me, I received my bachelor’s degree in Chinese Language and Literature, and master’s degree in Classical Chinese in Beijing Normal University.  I have taught Chinese as second language since 2004. I am confident my educational background, experience, and passion for teaching will provide your child with a positive atmosphere for learning and growth.

Your child will receive a weekly homework packet. The homework packet will be sent home on Mondays in the folder and it will be due on Fridays. Your child will have to complete two assignments (Language Art and Math) per day (Monday-Thursday). Please help your child complete his/her homework daily, put it back in the folder, and send it back on Fridays. Additionally, your child should read or an adult should read to them for at least 10 minutes every day (in English).

I will be reinforcing positive behavior throughout the day. There will be a monthly behavior calendar in the folder. Every day, your child will earn a stamp for his/her behavior. Blue stamp is for very good behavior (no warning) Green stamp is for good behavior, yellow stamp is for inappropriate behavior and red stamp is for very inappropriate behavior. At the end of the week, students who receive 5 blue stamps or 5 green stamps will be allowed to go to the treasure box for a treat. (We are always looking for special treats for our box. If you have any small toy that you do not need, we will appreciate your donation to our class). With these positive rewards in place, I’m sure we will have a great year.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me by email or by calling my direct line at school.  Please be understanding due to the fact that I am in classrooms all day.  I will get in touch with you as soon as possible.  Again, please don’t hesitate to contact me for any reason!  Thanks again!

    Sincerely,

    Yiting Wu
