Academic eligibility for extracurricular activities (Board policy JJJ/regulation JJJ-RA)All high school and middle school principals and assistant principals
In May, the Board of School Commissioners passed JJJ and JJJ-RA: Academic Eligibility for Extracurricular Activities. This policy and regulation state that principals may apply academic eligibility criteria for extracurricular activities for students in grades 6-12, and provide guidelines for how such eligibility criteria should be applied.
JJJ and JJJ-RA will go into effect in school year 2017-18. In spring 2018, all secondary principals will receive a survey asking them to identify which, if any, extracurricular activities had academic eligibility criteria at their schools. For questions, contact Laura Jones in the Teaching and Learning department at LKJones@bcps.k12.md.us.
