• City Schools has begun the process of studying ways that school zoning can be most effective for the district. Most recently, City Schools has used “spot-rezoning” to address changes in zone boundaries needed because of program closures, school consolidations, or co-location decisions resulting from the annual portfolio review or actions related to the 21st Century School Buildings Plan. Moving forward, the results of the rezoning feasibility study will inform possible steps for addressing districtwide issues including over- or under-crowding in school buildings.

    Between late March and early May 2017, eight community meetings were held across the city where information about the current status of City Schools’ enrollment and facility utilization was presented. Participants had an opportunity to discuss the different values and priorities that should be considered for any future rezoning efforts. Read the report from the meetings link opens PDF document.

    At a community meeting at the district office on September 25, City Schools stakeholders had the opportunity to learn more about the issues and share input on topics such as balancing enrollment and building capacity, transportation, equity in access to programs, and planning for the future.
