• Nominations for the 2017 Teacher of the Year award

    All principals and assistant principals: Deadline: February 9

    School leaders are encouraged to nominate at least one teacher from their school for the 2017 Teacher of the Year award by Thursday, February 9.

    Nominees must be full-time classroom, resource, or media teachers who spend the majority of their time teaching, and must be role models in the school and community. They must also have the following qualifications:

    • Minimum six years’ teaching experience by June 2017
    • Demonstrated leadership
    • Intention to remain in the classroom for the 2017-18 school year
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Rating of “effective” or “highly effective” for the past three evaluations

    Nominated teachers will be contacted and invited to submit an application to compete for the award, and the winner will be the district nominee for Maryland State Teacher of the Year.
