• Extended school year

All principals and assistant principals   |   Deadline: March 4 and others

As has been communicated to your IEP Chairs, all Extended School Year (ESY) decisions for the 2015-16 school year must have been made by your school’s IEP team by Tuesday, March 1 and IEP Chairpersons must print and distribute ESY Intent Letters to students and parents by Friday, March 4.

Extended School Year (ESY) services are special education and related services that are required by an individual with exceptional needs beyond the 180-day school year to provide free and appropriate public education. ESY is determined through a discussion of critical factors by the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team. The determining factor for ESY eligibility is whether the educational benefit achieved by the student during the school year will be jeopardized by a summer break in the IEP. Depending on individual student needs, ESY services may be able to be served through the regular summer school program.

Please note the following important ESY deadlines:

    Due Date

    March 18

IEP chair has documented due diligence in collecting the ESY Intent letters from the parents and has entered transportation information into the ESY system.

    April 28

IEP chair has printed ESY Site Assignment letters and sent home in students’ backpacks.

A copy of all completed ESY correspondence must be filed in the student’s confidential folder.
