Conscious discipline LU coursesAll principals and assistant principals | Deadline: March 4Principals are encouraged to register for the following LU courses that will be held at Gilmor Elementary School (1311 N. Gilmor St., Baltimore, MD 21217). Each course is eligible for one LU. Developed from the work of Dr. Becky Bailey, Conscious Discipline is research- and evidence-based and empowers adults to integrate the teaching of self-discipline with social-emotional learning, utilizing everyday events as the curriculum and addressing adults’ emotional intelligence as well as children's. Each of the courses below presents material developed by Dr. Bailey and adapted for Baltimore City Schools by the FBA/BIP Team. Participants will develop the skills to seamlessly build social emotional learning into their current practices so that children become more connected to adults and peers, more academically engaged, and more responsive to behavioral interventions.
10 Steps to Positive Discipline
This course will cover the 10 principles of positive discipline as they apply to building the social emotional competency and self-discipline of children. Participants will develop a deeper under-standing of themselves, their staff, and their students, in order to effectively increase school appropriate behavior and academic engagement.
Tuesdays 4-7 p.m. March 8, 15, and 22, and April 5 and 12 (potential make-up April 19th)
Becoming Brain Smart
This course covers the basic neuropsychological mechanisms behind children’s and adult’s mal-adaptive behavior in school as well as practical tools for participants to both manage their own stress and teach coping skills to colleagues and children.
