Emergency preparedness and Hurricane Joaquin
Heavy rain is forecast for the Baltimore region from Friday, October 2, through Monday, October 5. Please monitor weather forecasts and watch for announcements of any weather-related schedule changes, which will be made through all regular district channels. Section 3 of the 2015-16 Critical Response and School Emergency Management Guide provides guidance on responding to severe weather. Please also note the following.
Friday, October 2
If weather becomes severe during the regular school/business day, please ensure that all staff and students remain indoors and away from windows and glass doors. Make sure all interior and external doors are closed and secure. Keep curtains and blinds closed and turn off as many lights as possible. Please notify the Facilities Department or School Police if you need help with the removal of debris, fallen trees, fallen wires, or assistance with other facility damage.
Before leaving their buildings on Friday, leadership staff should ensure that custodial staff have secured all windows and doors. It is advised to remove collected leaves from window wells and storm drains and to secure roof hatches and roof doors. Place trash cans in areas that are known to have persistent roof leaks.
Through Sunday, October 4
Please remind all custodians that they are classified as “essential personnel” in weather-related emergencies and must report to work as needed.
Monday, October 5
Custodians must fully inspect their buildings and grounds and immediately report damage to their building supervisor.
