Change regarding TerraNova administrationElementary and middle school principals | Deadline: September 18
As part of the middle and high school choice process, a “composite score” is calculated to determine eligibility of 5th- and 8th-grade students applying for the Advanced Academics middle school program and for entrance criteria high schools. Depending on the program or school, components of the composite score include assessment results, report card grades, and attendance.
Last year as the district transitioned to PARCC, the TerraNova assessment was administered to 5th- and 8th-grade students to provide assessment results to include in calculation of composite scores. In an effort to reduce testing time for students, the TerraNova will not be administered this year. Instead, results from i-Ready, an assessment that students will already be taking in September as part of the district’s assessment program, will be used in calculating composite scores.
To ensure that composite scores can be calculated in a timely fashion for the choice process, all schools (neighborhood and charters) with 5th- and 8th-grade students should plan to schedule i-Ready administration in both math and reading for those grade levels during the week of September 14. Administration for other grade levels can be scheduled within the broader window of September 8 to 30.
