• Dear City Schools Leadership Team,

With this last action update before the end of school, I’m making a departure from the usual format to open with a special message of thanks for your dedication, hard work, and—most important—leadership. We have had both great successes and great challenges this year. True leadership comes from knowing how to celebrate and build on the former to meet and overcome the latter. I witnessed that leadership in many ways this year, from the many celebrations of student and staff accomplishments I attended at schools to the response I saw across our district to the unrest Baltimore experienced earlier this spring. Your efforts have made a difference for the staff you lead, your colleagues, and the families and students we serve.

There are a few items in this week's Leadership Action Update that require your attention as we close out the school year, and these communications will continue throughout the summer. But at this time of reflection on the past year, I wanted to take a moment to share my appreciation for all you do. I hope you have an opportunity for some rest and relaxation with family and friends this summer. You’ve earned it!

    Sincerely,

    Gregory E. Thornton, Ed.D.
    Chief Executive Officer
