Effective leadership within schools has a strong influence on teachers, students and the community. The four core areas of the Leadership Framework capture essential functions of school leaders, so observations and evaluation based on the framework can provide clear feedback to help school leaders enhance their practice.
The Leadership Framework and Rubric were developed in collaboration with principals, executive directors of principal support (EDs) and the consulting group SchoolWorks. The framework lists the areas of focus and action that go into effective leadership:
- Highly effective instruction
- Talented people
- Vision and engagement
- Strategic leadership
A working group of principals, EDs and City Schools leadership provided feedback on the development of the accompanying rubric. After thorough training and coaching sessions on the framework and rubric, principal supervisors are responsible for evaluating principals on the individual aspects of the framework.
