Media relations protocols for schools and offices
All leaders | Deadline: ongoing
In order to ensure positive relations with media and provision of accurate and appropriate information, it is essential that schools and district offices inform the district’s communications department about all media requests for information or to cover school or district activities, prior to that coverage taking place. Schools and offices must also inform communications staff if they are issuing press releases or “pitching” information and story ideas to media outlets, and should immediately call the communications department (410-545-1870) if media are on site without prior arrangements having been made.
This required notification protocol will not only ensure that staff receive appropriate support and guidance in their contacts with the media, but also that the district can follow up with media outlets as needed — and become aware of positive stories to share with the broader community.
Before any interaction with media takes place, contact Edie House Foster, manager of public information, by email or phone 410-852-5637.
