• Return of applications for free or reduced-price meals

    All principals | Deadline: October 15, 2014

As of October 6, more than 25,000 students have not returned FARMs applications for this school year. Please check your school on the Due Diligence Tracker, and contact the Food and Nutrition Services department (by email or at 410-396-8755) regarding any missing applications that were submitted more than 10 days ago. If you have concerns about specific students, email with the student's name and ID number to find out application status.

Free lunch will be provided to all students through October 15, after which students without applications on file must pay for meals. To ensure that eligible students continue to receive free lunch, please return all applications to the district office as soon as possible. Schools with more than 90 percent of applications returned on October 15 will be entered into a drawing to receive a visit from the Orioles or Ravens mascot.

Action to take regarding unsubmitted applications

  • If a principal believes that a child is eligible for free meals (based on knowledge of family income or household circumstances), the parent/guardian has failed to apply, and attempts to reach the parent/guardian have been unsuccessful, the principal can complete an application on the child's behalf. Please review information on the administrative prerogative for instructions.

  • Encourage use of the online application to ensure expedited processing. Information can be entered by school officials with the consent of the parent/guardian.

  • If families indicate they are not eligible for or have no interest in the free meal program, please log the outreach activities and submit via the Due Diligence Tracker so these "opt-outs" can be tracked.
