Great teachers come from backgrounds that bring different experiences and knowledge into classrooms to benefit students.
Many of City Schools teachers graduated from traditional colleges or schools of education. Others have joined the district from innovative programs like the Baltimore City Teaching Residency , Teach for America and the Urban Teacher Center , which recruit professionals and college graduates from different disciplines and provide training and a path to Maryland certification.
City Schools also works hard to ensure that teachers are “highly qualified,” as defined and required under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act . Ongoing professional development is actively encouraged and supported. And the district works in partnership with the Baltimore Teachers Union , implementing a contract that offers clear steps up a professional ladder and rewards effective teachers with both career and salary advancement.
