School Effectiveness Reviews
-
The school effectiveness review (or SER) is a mechanism that allows schools to identify strengths and weaknesses in order to contribute to school-based planning and budgeting. SERs also inform the district office about how schools are performing and guide district-level decision making related to support and accountability. For schools with external operators, SERs are part of the contract or charter renewal process.
The school effectiveness review takes place during a two-day site visit to a school, when a team of trained reviewers collects evidence of the school’s effectiveness through classroom observations, focus groups and document reviews. For ways you can participate in the SER at your school, please speak with your school leader. To learn more about SERs, download the 2017-18 School Effectiveness Review Protocol. An appeals process
is also in place for schools to ensure that all facts contained in the reports are accurate.
