School Effectiveness Reviews
The school effectiveness review (or SER) helps schools to identify strengths and weaknesses in order to contribute to school-based planning and budgeting. SERs also inform the district office about how schools are performing and guide district-level decision making related to support and accountability. For schools with external operators, SERs are part of the contract or charter renewal process. The SER takes place during a two-day site visit to a school, when a team of trained reviewers collects evidence of the school’s effectiveness through classroom observations, focus groups, and document reviews. An appeals process is in place for schools to ensure that all facts contained in the resulting report are accurate. For ways you can participate in the SER at your school, please speak with your school leader.
