Welcome back! My name is Xiao (Scarlett) Chen and I am very excited to be your children’s teacher this year.Establishing good classroom discipline is essential to each child’s success, confidence and well-being. Every child should feel that the classroom environment is safe and secure, free from all threats
of physical or emotional harm. In addition, it is important that each child learns to develop self-discipline and good work habits, to resolve conflicts peacefully, and to think independently. The curriculum at BIA is rigorous but we strive to make the learning process here fun and rewarding. We are particularly excited this year to be teaching your children in a new building. And we have a reading center, music center and will have a computer center in the classroom.I believe that a good parent-teacher relationship is necessary for maximum school success. Throughout the year I will communicate with you through email, notes, telephone calls, and parent-teacher conferences. I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time. You can send me a note or email me at XChen@bcps.k12.md.us. I am available for conferences regarding your child’s progress by appointment on school days.If you are interested in having a birthday party for your child in school, please inform me at least 2 days in advance. Cupcakes are great, but full cakes are not. Birthday parties are held at the end of the day. Please check your child’s school work regularly. Give praise or encouragement and extra help whenever needed. Please make sure he/she does the homework and returns it to school next day. I also ask that you return any forms, questionnaires, trip permission slips, etc. when they are due.Contact me with any concerns or questions you may have. When we work as a team, we will be successful.I look forward to working with you this year.
