Dear Parents and Students:

            It is indeed a pleasure to welcome all our returning students and our new students to the 2012/13 school year! Our first day of school is August 27, 2012. The teachers and staff are excited and look forward to sharing many academic experiences with our students.  Our focus will be on providing each child with new challenges that will result in a rewarding school experience.  Academic emphasis on the core content areas of reading, language arts, science, social studies, and math will remain a priority as well as providing a learning program that builds on each year to reach local and state standards.  Instruction in the fine arts and technology complete our program providing each student with the opportunity to develop areas of interest and skill.

 The first day can be confusing for students, therefore listed below are some important first day reminders. To promote the transition of your child to pre-kindergarten, the Baltimore City Public School System has designed the following procedures for  gradual entrance. All students arriving between 7:15 and 7:55 a.m. (with or without parents) are to meet on the playground behind the building for supervision.

First Day Reminders

• First student day of school is Monday, August 27, 2012.

   

• On Monday, August 27 the Pre K classes will admit only ten students per day for orientation. (Students with the Last name – (beginning with A-L)

   

• On Tuesday, August 28 the ten additional Pre-K students will be allowed to attend orientation. (Students with the Last name – (beginning with M-Z)

   

• On Wednesday, August 29, all students (including Pre-K) will be admitted to begin the school year.

   

• All students must be in uniform.

   

• The arrival and dismissal times for Pre-K - 8^th Grade are 8:00 a.m. – 2:50 p.m.   

   

• Parents must sign out all Pre- Kindergarten and Kindergarten on a daily basis.

 As we begin this year, please remember that this is your school and we welcome your involvement.  To increase communication between home and school, we are asking all students to closely review the code of conduct and the student handbook. Additional communication will be established to keep you up to date about what is happening at Dr. Nathan Pitts-Ashburton Elementary / Middle School.
