• The Board of School Commissioners approved changes to the 2017-18 calendar to make up days that all schools have been closed due to weather-related issues. These changes include the following:

    • The last day of school will be Friday, June 15.
    • March 16 will be a half-day of instruction for students, with afternoon professional learning for teachers.
    • Pending approval by the Maryland State Board of Education, spring break will be shortened by one day, with schools and offices open on Monday, April 2. (The State Board is anticipated to consider this request at its meeting on February 27.) If approved, schools will be closed from Monday, March 26, through Friday, March 30; the district office will be closed from March 28 to 30.

For more information, please visit the district’s website. We will update you regarding the potential change to spring break once we know whether the requested waiver has been granted.

  • City Council Education Listening Tour: February 15 (6:00 pm) at Hampden Elementary

As chair of Baltimore City Council’s Education and Youth Committee, Councilman Zeke Cohen is conducting a listening tour.  We desire to hear from leaders, teachers, parents, students, and community members to understand the needs of City Schools and shape the goals of the Education and Youth committee.

The purpose of this tour is to talk with members of our community about the most pressing challenges facing City Schools and ways that we can work together to address them. Of particular interest to Councilman Cohen is how we can improve access to college and career readiness.

This meeting will take place on February 15 at Hampden Elementary (3608 Chestnut Ave, 21211) at 6:00 pm.  Food will be available.  For more information and to RSVP please visit: https://tinyurl.com/HampdenES.

We’re looking forward to seeing you there!
