Dear Parents/Guardians/Students:

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2013-2014 school year. I’m hopeful that you had an enjoyable summer vacation and are looking forward with enthusiasm to the new school year.

Together, we greet this school year with great expectations and determination. Success waits down every hallway and within each classroom, ready to embrace our endeavors.  We need only to move forward with Character, Confidence and Commitment to ensure school-wide accomplishments.

Our accomplishments, this school year, will depend on how well each of us view student life at Carver Vocational-Technical High School.  We know student life comes with a multitude of challenges in academics, sports, career pathways, technology, and personal relationships.  Facing these challenges will develop your character.

Positive choices will certainly promote achievement in every aspect of school life and beyond. Those successes will come with a big payoff—a sense of Confidence.  Take pride in all things done well for the sake of family, school, and especially yourself.  Show this pride through words spoken, uniforms worn, and actions taken. Make sure behaviors displayed represent those of students striving for victory. In other words, how confident are you?

While setting goals, achieving good grades, maintaining positive attitudes, and attending school punctually reflect your pride; all this requires commitment.  Each of us must believe in the possibility of moving forward and our resolve to keep trying until we do, no matter what.  In other words, how committed will you be this school year?

As you prepare for the opening of school on Monday August 26th, 2013, please remember that the school day is from 8:20 AM to 3:20 PM. Breakfast will be served daily from 7:30 AM – 8:00 AM.  Students are required to wear uniforms beginning on the first day.  Uniform shirts may be purchased from the school store between the hours of 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Cash or money orders made payable to Carver Vo-Tech will only be accepted for payment.  Please see attached uniform order form for further details.  In addition, if your child intends to use a book bag for carrying their books, please make sure the book bag is clear.

In closing, Carvers’ mission is to equip students with the skills that reflect academic achievement and service/trade area mastery through a community wide support system encouraging critical thinking skills that will ensure success at all levels.

Thank you for your support and we look forward to another successful year at Carver Vo-Tech.

In Partnership,
Kirk A. Sykes
