Dear Parent/Guardian and Student:
On behalf of the staff at Baltimore Talent Development High School in partnership with Johns Hopkins University, I am happy to welcome you to the 2013-14 school year! Hopefully you are having a relaxing and enjoyable summer filled with good books to read and family activities. Summer is always a great time to bond and make memories through fun and rewarding experiences.
As the leader of our Baltimore Talent Family, I strongly believe that every child can learn and achieve the highest level of academic success with the proper preparation and support. Baltimore Talent Development has devoted teaching and support staff with a wealth of knowledge and expertise. We are dedicated to building a safe, compassionate community of lifelong learners who are scholars, creators, critical thinkers and problem solvers. We believe that high expectations yield academic transformation for all students.
School year 2013-2014 will offer several programmatic changes. There will be new teachers, a new bell schedule, different lunch periods, and a few new course offerings. This school year, we will no longer have weekly half days on Wednesday. Moving forward, half days will be scheduled the fourth Wednesday of each month.
Academics continue to be the top priority at BTDHS and our focus this year will be based on working together to increase student achievement, making teaching and learning important. Our students should arrive for the new school year with the belief that education is essential and requires dedicated hard work. We are asking that parents and guardians stress the importance of responsibility, attendance, and self-motivation as we strive to educate our young learners. As the meaningful adults in their lives, parents and teachers alike must do all they can to support the development of our students academic and organizational skills.
Please take some time to review the important information that has been sent with this letter regarding health clinic, sports, and uniforms. You will also find several forms that need to be completed and returned to school. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school. Enjoy the rest of your summer. I look forward to meeting each of you this school year and strengthening our partnership in pursuit of your child's excellence.
