We are moving towards the end of the school year. There is one very important role that parents and our community partners must take to help us prepare for next school year. We have a School Family Council (SFC) meeting on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 which starts in the high school building at 5:30 pm. Please come out and help us make set our cuts/spending priorities for the 2013-2014 school year. Make sure your voices are heard. Please call the school at 443-642-2213 and ask for Ms. Dana Edwards if you have any questions.

Another very important role that parents can play is helping us get ready for our testing season. The students in the middle school building will begin to take the Maryland State Assessments (MSAs) in Reading and Math during the month of March. Students in grades six, seven, and eight (6^th– 8^th) will begin the Reading MSAs starting on March 5, 2013. Please make sure that you send your child to school early so that he or she does not miss the exam. We open up the doors of the middle school at 7:45 am. These same students will take the Math MSAs starting on March 12, 2013. Only the eighth graders (8^th) graders will take the Science MSA. The Science MSA will start on April 8, 2013.  Currently, we are holding Saturday Academy every Saturday to help students prepare for the MSAs. Saturday Academy starts at 8:30 am and ends at 12:30 pm every Saturday. We provide students with breakfast and lunch. Please call the school at 443-642-2213 and ask for Ms. Peyton if you have any questions about Saturday Academy. 

Students in the high school building will also begin to take exams soon.  Our high school students take the High School Assessments (HSAs) starting as early as April. Passing each HSAs is a graduation requirement. HSAs are given in Biology, English, and Algebra. Only twelfth (12^th) graders take the HSAs in April since they have to meet the graduation requirements by the end of May. Currently, we are holding an Evening Academy where students who have not passed the exams may take an HSA Recovery course so that they can prepare for the exam. We suggest students take these courses to prepare for the HSAs. Please call the school at 443-642-2213 and ask for Ms. Peyton if you have any questions about the Evening Academy. Students in the ninth, tenth, and eleventh grades (9^th– 11^th) will take their exams in May 2013. The Algebra exam is on May 20, 2013. The English II exam is on May 21,2013. The Biology exam is on May 22, 2013.

Remember Saturday Academy, Evening Academy, and Coach Classes are ways to help your child do well academically and on exams. Please take advantage of these programs. We are offering them because we care and we want your child to succeed. Hard work is one of the keys to success.
