Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year at the National Academy Foundation School of Baltimore! We are a college and career preparation school starting at grade 6 and going through to grade 12. We have five distinct academies of learning in our high school building: Engineering, Business/Finance, Hospitality (Culinary and Lodging), Law, and Information Technology. We have two distinct academies in our middle school building: Gateway (pre-engineering) and Information Technology Academy (for 6th and 7th graders). We are also going into a planning year so we may eventually have a NAF Academy of Health Sciences. In addition to our academies, we offer several activities for our students that will help them achieve in academics…citizenship…and athletics.
We have many exciting changes for this upcoming school year. We are part of a national organization – this explains our name. The national office of NAF partners with our school to support our career academies (www.naf.org). The national office has gone through a re-branding so we have a new brand (for example, the colors are green, black, white, and silver/gray) that we will roll out eventually. Most importantly, we have a new focus and motto – “Be Future Ready.”
We are going to move our students to “Be Future Ready,” and we need the help of all students, staff, parents/guardians, and community members. We need for everyone to come to our events, volunteer for our School Family Council/Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO), and please make sure we work with every child to:
· Achieves a grade of an 85 or better in each class;
· Have fewer than 5 absences;
· Have fewer than 5 tardy arrivals;
· Join a club or team; and
· Take advantage of one of our FREE academic programs (usually held after-school or on Saturdays).
· Speak his or her truth (positive exercise of student voice)
· NEVER SETTLE
We are happy that your child will be a student at the National Academy Foundation School. We expect each NAF student to contribute to our school climate in a positive way [see NAF Non-Negotiables on this website] so that all of us may succeed. We also hope that our parents/guardians contribute to our school in a positive way. Please view this website for attachments with our supply list and new uniform options. We have many changes in the district and in our school this year. However, our response to changes will be positive.
The first day of school is Monday, August 31, 2015. Please have your child report to school at 8:00 am. Breakfast will be served at 7:45 am. Every student is welcome to attend breakfast.
Enjoy the rest of your summer. We look forward to seeing you on August 31st.
