What Is the International Baccalaureate Organization?
"The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end, the organization works with schools, governments, and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right." (visit the IB website at: http://www.ibo.org/ )
BIA's IB Primary Years Programme:
BIA's mission and vision are closely aligned with that of the IB. We are proud to become the third school in Maryland to be authorized as an IB World School in the PYP (grades K-5) This distinction is granted to schools that have met the rigorous standards set by the International Baccalaureate Organization. We are in our third year of implementing the Primary Years Program (PYP). Our teachers have been diligent in developing a cohesive Program of Inquiry that ensures student engagement and learning.
It is our goal to develop International Mindedness in our students through the development of the IB Learner Profile. The IB developed the Learner Profiles after studies identified certain character traits in people who were internationally minded.BIA's IB Middle Years Programme:
BIA is in "candidate" status for the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP). This program is for students in 6th through 10th grades. The students continue to learn through inquiry, like the PYP, but they learn in subject-specific classes; they do not have the transdisciplinary formats that they had in the PYP. Students continue to develop through the IB Learner Profiles and actively work on enhancing their Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills. These ATLs form the foundation upon which students build their understanding of the aspects of learning their MYP subjects.
MYP students use their ATL skills that enable them to perform defined tasks. Each subject has clear objectives that students must meet and their teachers must assess using the IB predetermined rubrics. The rubrics are listed by subject below. To view them, click on the links for each subject:
