This summer, the positive momentum continues as staff members participate in professional development; the building undergoes deep cleaning and reorganization; and a brand new, state-of-the art Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Library is being constructed.
As we plan for a smooth opening, please note the following important reminders:
v We will continue with security measures instituted last year by our CEO, Dr. Gregory Thornton. ON EVERY VISIT, ALL parents and other visitors must enter through the front door, have a valid picture ID scanned, and obtain a pass.
v The first day of school for students in grades K-8 is Monday, August 31, 2015. All students will meet their teachers in the rear of the building beginning at 8:30 if they are eating breakfast or 8:40 if they are not.
v In an effort to make the transition to school easier for your pre-kindergartener, we will use a three-day gradual entrance orientation as follows:
Ø On Monday, August 31st, the Pre K classes will admit only a few students per day for orientation. Only students with the last names beginning with A-F will report. These students do not report on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Ø On Tuesday, September 1st, the second group of Pre-K students will attend orientation. Only students with the last names beginning with G-M will report. These students do not report on Monday or Wednesday.
Ø On Wednesday, September 2nd, the group with the last names beginning with N-Z will report. These students do not report on Monday or Tuesday.
Ø Starting Thursday, September 3rd--and continuing throughout the remainder of the year--all Pre-K students will report together.
**Pre-K parents, please plan to stay until 10:00 on your child’s first day so that you can learn important information about the class.**
v All students must be in uniform every day. Pre-K to 6th grade students wear light blue or white shirts or blouses over navy bottoms, and students in 7th and 8th grade wear navy blue shirts or blouses over tan khaki bottoms.
This year, a Back-to-School Family and Community Engagement Cookout will be held on Friday, August 21st from 12:00-2:00. You will meet teachers, staff, and community members; receive the parent-student handbook for this year; have a chance to sign up for the PTO and volunteer opportunities; and enjoy a light lunch. Those who stay through the entire presentation will be eligible to receive donated school supplies. We look forward to working with you and your child throughout the school year and hope that you will enjoy the remainder of your summer.
