In addition to new personnel, we joined the ranks of schools across the country fully implementing new curriculum birthed from College and Career Readiness Standards--which through high quality teaching and learning--challenged our students to think critically, solve real world problems, and competently and confidently expressoral and written ideas.
As we plan for a smooth opening, please note the following important reminders:
v The first day of school for students in grades K-8 is Monday, August 25, 2014. All students will meet their teachers in the rear of the building beginning at 8:30 if they are eating breakfast or 8:40 if they are not. Every morning thereafter, students will line up (according to grade levels) in areas designated assigned to them on the first day of school. The daily start time for students is 8:45, and their day ends at 3:25. It is important to note that there will be no early dismissals granted after 3:00.
v In an effort to make the transition to school easier for your pre-kindergartener,we will use a three-day gradual entrance orientation as follows:
Ø On Monday, August 25, the Pre Kclasses will admit only a few students per day for orientation. Only students with the last names beginning with A-F will report. These students do not report on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Ø On Tuesday, August 26, the 2ndgroup of Pre-K students will attend orientation. Only students with the last names beginning with G-M will report. These students do not report on Monday or Wednesday.
Ø On Wednesday, August 27, the group with the last names beginning with N-Zwill report. These students do not report on Monday or Tuesday.
Ø Starting Thursday, August 28--and continuing through the remainder of the year--all Pre-K students will report together.
**Pre-K parents, please plan to stay until 10:00 so that you can learn important information about the class.**
v As mandated by Baltimore CityPublic Schools, parents must sign out all Pre- Kindergarten and Kindergarten students from the designated area on a daily basis.
v All students must be in uniform. Pre-K to 6th grade students wear light blue shirts or blouses over tan khaki bottoms or white shirts over blue khaki bottoms. Students in7th and 8th grade wear navy blue shirts or blouses over tan khaki bottoms. Females have the option of wearing jumpers with the appropriate top underneath.
This year, the Back-to-School Night will occur BEFORE school starts: Thursday, August 21st from 3:30-5:30 p.m. You will meet teachers, receive a parent-student handbook, and enjoy light dinner. Those who stay through the entire presentation will be eligible to receive school supplies. We look forward to working with you and your child throughout the school year and hope that you will enjoy the remainder of your summer.
