Greetings Curtis Bay Elementary/Middle School Parents/Guardians:

I would like to officially welcome you to the 2015-16 school year! We want to emulate an atmosphere that is warm and where learning is enjoyed and we were able to accomplish just that last year. Curtis Bay was recognized immensely and I am so thankful for everyone's hard work!

  • School-wide Attendance has increased from 87.2 % (SY 14-15) to 88.2%.  The At-Risk for Chronic Absences decreased from 43.3% (SY14-15) to 32.8%

We want to welcome new faces to the Curtis Bay Family…Ms. Eich (PK), Ms. Campbell (First), Ms. Fiesta and Ms. Fital (Second), Ms. Rein (Third), and Ms. Bergstein (SPED) just to name a few.  We also have some current teachers/staff that have transitioned into different roles.

Curtis Bay has several partnerships that will continue such as Junior Achievement, Girl Scouts, the Maryland Food Bank, Beat the Streets Wrestling, BGE and Newfit Kids, but I would like to recognize new partnerships, the Judy Center Expansion and America Corps to support the pre-kindergarten families, the Urban Teacher Center to provide additional teaching resources in the elementary and middle school classrooms and Johns Hopkins University-Bayview to support students and families with mental health therapy and consultation.

Volunteer Registration/Background Checks is offered to all parents who would like to volunteer at Curtis Bay, please see Ms. Nichelle Santo, our Parent Liaison. This allows you to volunteer at our school as well as attend field trips with students.

Parent Portal access is available to all parents and is found on our school website www.baltimorecityschools.org/207. We highly recommend that you utilize this service as soon as possible to receive your child’s username and password, if you have not already done so.

It is important and will be stressed that your child reports to school and adheres to the City School’s Dress Code. On the website, you will find information on how to purchase the school’s uniform shirts and hoodies. Please feel free to donate gently used school uniforms to the school.

Momentum and planning is taking place to make this year an exciting year! I look forward to seeing all of you at Back to School Night on Friday, August 28, 2015!

Educationally Yours,

Lynnea C. Cornish
