August 1, 2016
Dear Parents/ Guardians:
Welcome to The New Woodhome Elementary/Middle School home of the “WILDCATS.” As Wildcats we will strive to ROAR daily that will exhibit how the students are Respectful, On-Time, Accountable, and Responsible. This will be a school year of academic change as we focus on each child’s diversity.
The theme for the school year will be “Making a Difference for All to See”.
Our first day of school is Monday, August 29, 2016. A new school year is always electrifying, exciting and employed with new learning opportunities. So as we embark upon this new school year, we will be working diligently to improve the school-wide instructional implementation of the K-8th state standards. This will ensure our students have the skills to be College and Career Ready. Woodhome will do this by providing a city-wide Early Learning Center for four and five year olds that focus on building strong early literacy skills through a partnership with Johns Hopkins. The school will be a site for Gifted and Advance Learners, offering honors courses for middle school using a curriculum entitled Spring Board. Also providing an advance literacy (Jacob’s ladder and mathematics (M2/M3) curriculum for identified elementary students. Lastly, the school will offer multiple extra-curricular activities for students such as NAL, Dance, Basketball, Robotics, LEGO Club, Good News Club, and Spanish Club.
So as you can see The New Woodhome will have more to offer your child and we need your support and feedback. The school leadership team will offer four CHAT and CHEW sessions with the Principal to see how we are doing, what to continue or improve. Look for more information to come during the month of September.
A letter was sent home with the student’s last report card sharing the school bell schedule, supply list, uniform expectations, and your child’s homeroom/classroom number information. If you did not receive a letter please call the school and the office staff will make sure you get the pertinent information. Also, if you need a supply list it will be available for pick-up in the main office or on the school’s website. Back to School Night is scheduled for Thursday, September 15th, 5:00pm-7:00pm, so please plan to attend to meet the staff and gain an understanding of the grade level expectations.
On the first day of school all students should line up on the blacktop behind their homeroom number. Their teacher will be there to greet them holding up a sign that has their name and homeroom number. Please feel free to come in with them for the first thirty minutes of the school day and stop by our New Parent Room to meet our Family Engagement Specialist, PTA President and share how you can support the school community (volunteer, join a committee, lead a club, share a resource, facilitate a parent session etc..)
Thank you for being a part of the Woodhome Family. We look forward to seeing you on the first day of school.
Mrs. Shontel Douglas
