Dear Parents and Guardians,
On behalf of the staff at Arundel, I am happy to welcome you to the 2016-17 school year! We are looking forward to a productive school year. Our school motto is “Unleashing Our Potential: We’re Destined for Greatness.” Our #1 priority is educating students and providing a safe learning environment. We are eager to help our scholars achieve their highest potential. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. We ask that you support the learning process by ensuring your child: 1) Attends school daily, arrives on time, in uniform, ready to work, listen and learn, 2) Adheres to the school’s behavior and academic expectations, 3) Completes daily classwork and homework assignments and 3) Knows that you expect excellence in school.
School opens for scholars on Monday, August 29th. Our bell time will remain as 8:00 a.m.-2:40 p.m. Scholars in Pre-K-4th grade will enter and exit through the main lobby doors. Scholars in 5th-8th grade will enter and exit through the back door closer to Round Road and Veronica Avenue. Staff will begin supervising students on the blacktop at 7:50 am. In the case of inclement weather, scholars may sit in the cafeteria/auditorium. The back door across from the main office will open at 7:50 a.m.
It is imperative for all scholars to arrive to school on time. Breakfast will be served in the classroom during homeroom from 8:00-8:10 a.m. Scholars will participate in a morning meeting everyday from 8:10-8:30 am with their homeroom teacher to set a positive tone for the day.
Arundel EMS will remain a uniform school. Scholars in PreK-4th grade should wear burgundy collared shirts and tan khaki bottoms. Scholars in 5th-8th grade should wear navy blue collared shirts and tan khaki bottoms. For the safety of students and staff, students may not wear hoodies during the school day. Tan, burgundy or navy blue sweaters, blazers or fleece jackets may be worn. Monthly and quarterly incentives will be given to scholars who wear their uniform, arrive to school on time and have perfect attendance. Your continued support and cooperation is appreciated! Uniform shirts, pants and sweaters are available for sale in the main office.
New families to Arundel are encouraged to attend a mandatory orientation on Monday, August 22nd from 9:00-10:00 am. Light refreshments will be served and each person will receive a free raffle ticket to win one of many prizes at the end of the orientation. Our annual Meet Your Teacher Day will be held on Friday, August 26th from 2:00-2:30 p.m. Back to School Night will be held on Thursday, September 1st from 4:00-6:00 p.m. During Back to School Night, you will learn about our initiatives for the upcoming school year, have an opportunity to meet teachers and support staff and receive updates about the 21st Century School Buildings being built in Cherry Hill.
The Visitor Management System will continue this school year. Per district policy, each visitor to Arundel must show a driver’s license or state ID to be registered. Visitors will sign in and receive a badge to wear while in the building during every visit. We ask that you comply with the policy to keep our scholars and staff safe. In the event that a visitor does not cooperate with the new district policy, school police will be contacted and the visitor may be banned from the school building. Early dismissals will not be granted after 2:00 pm. This policy will help decrease the amount of movement during last period as our scholars will be engaged in instruction until 2:35 p.m.
During the school day, I will be visiting classrooms to work with students and teachers. I ask that you respect the instructional time and request to meet with me before 7:45 am or after 3:00 pm. Ms. Williams, the secretary will take your name, phone number and topic of discussion. You will receive a call at the end of the day to schedule a meeting with me.
Please consider joining our “Power Parent” group and/or serving as a volunteer. Our scholars can greatly benefit from your involvement and contributions. Ms. Brown and Mrs. Clea will act as the parent liaisons and volunteer coordinators this school year. If you would to volunteer and/or support with planning school events, please stop by the main office to speak to Ms. Brown or Mrs. Clea.
I feel privileged to continue to serve as principal in this school community. I thank you for your support and look forward to participating in the educational process with you. As partners, we will expect excellence and positive behavior from our scholars and work together to move our school forward! Enjoy the remainder of your summer. I will see you in August!
Respectfully,Mrs. Rochelle Machado
