Dear Students and Parents:

It is with great excitement and pleasure that I welcome you to the 2015-2016 school year!  This year Baltimore City Public Schools will open on Monday, August 31, 2015.  School will start promptly at 9:00 a.m. for students.  We will NOT serve breakfast on the first day of school.

On August 28, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m., we will have our annual “Sneak a Peek at Your Seat”.  Parents and students will be able to meet their teacher and take a peek at their new classroom.  Students must be accompanied by a parent.

Our staff eagerly anticipates developing a strong partnership with you to strengthen the bond of establishing a well-rounded community school.  If you have any concerns regarding safety, academic rigor and/or any other needs of your child, please don’t hesitate to contact the school at 410-396-6271or 6272.

We thank you for your continuous support.  We promise to put forth our most dedicated efforts to help your child meet his/her maximum potential.  As your child departs for school each morning, we ask that you remind them to follow our Code of Conduct and complete all of his/her classwork.

In conclusion, please know that we take our commitment to you and your child seriously.  Their safety and education are the two most important responsibilities we have. Also, please download the Walter P. Carter Elementary/Middle App on your mobile device for alerts and additional information.  Please see the attached form with App information

**School Policies**

Listed below are some very important details for the 2015-2016 academic year:

1.      School starts promptly at 8:50 a.m.  Breakfast will be served during community circle each day at 8:50 and ends at 9:20. Please make sure your child arrives to school on time.

2.      All students are required to enter the building from the front door and proceed to their community area.  Parents, it is important that students report to school on time because our teachers will begin instruction at 9:20 a.m. and students will be coded tardy after 9:20 a.m.  REMINDER: Attendance is an important criterion in determining promotion eligibility.  Students with 100% perfect attendance will be rewarded for their commitment.

3.      Emergency cards will be sent home on the first day of school.  Please return them immediately.  It is VERY important to inform the school of changes in your address, cellular, home, work and emergency numbers as they occur throughout the school year.

4.      Visitors MUST come directly to the main office to sign in and show a state-issued photo ID.  All visitors must enter the building through the main entrance door.  For safety purposes, all doors will remain locked to outside entry at all times.  Please assist us in keeping all students safe.

5.      Dismissal Procedures

Dismissal will start promptly at 3:30 p.m.  We ask that you please limit early pick-ups to emergencies only.  Remember to value and protect your child’s instructional time.  Absolutely no early dismissals will be honored after 3:15 p.m.  In the case of early school closings, be mindful that students will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m.  Moreover, we are required to make sure that all children are fed prior to dismissal.  For this reason, we are asking that you remain patient and follow BCPSS early dismissal procedures and policies.

Exit Doors

·         Pre-K and Kindergarten students need to be picked up at the tiny-tot playground door by an adult or an older sibling listed on the emergency card.  Individuals picking students up will have to sign out the students.
