Substitute Teacher Office
Mission Statement:
To secure substitutes that will provide daily educational instruction to students in the absence of a certified or highly qualified teacher or that will provide daily educational instruction to students until a teacher is secured for a vacant position.
Overview of Department:
- The office assists Principals with securing substitutes for their daily and long term needs.
- Pre-employment processes for newly hired substitutes are scheduled by this office.
- The office maintains the Substitute files.

Important Information for City Schools Employees
Qualifications are:
- Proof of Education – Official transcripts or copy of diploma/degree
- Two current letters of reference (employer or professional)
- School based eligibility interview
- Criminal background check and medical clearance
Per Diem (by the day) Pay Rates
High School Diploma or GED - $37.50
30 college credits - $50.00
AA or non-degree (minimum 60 college credits) - $60.00
Bachelor or above without MD Teacher Certification - $75 Short term/$100 Long term
Bachelor or above with MD Teacher Certification - $85 Short term/$110 Long term
Special Education (must meet specific criteria) - $150
