Compensation Department
Mission Statement:
The purpose of the Compensation Department is to develop, implement and administer classification and wage and salary programs for Baltimore City Public School System (BCPSS) that are compliant with applicable federal and state laws and regulations, Board rules, union contract provisions, and human resources policies, procedures, and guidelines, and that support BCPSS’s goals for internal equity, external competitiveness, and accurate pay for BCPSS personnel.
Overview of Department:
The Compensation Department administers the classification and wage and salary programs for the BCPSS for its five (5) employee unions as well as programs for unaffiliated officers and staff. Responsibilities include development and administration of classification and compensation policies, procedures, and guidelines for all employee groups, job, organization, and position analysis, job and position descriptions, position management, implementation and management of pay/salary structures, processing related adjustments and incentives, salary surveys and analyses, and providing consultation and related reports for internal and external organizations. The Compensation Department works in close coordination with the Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) department to ensure the effective update and maintenance of employee assignment and salary records.
