Question: Is the Baltimore City School Police part of the Baltimore Police Department?
Answer: The Baltimore City School Police and the Baltimore Police Department are two separate police departments providing police service within the City of Baltimore. Both agencies share intelligence, information and resources and have concurrent jurisdiction within the City Limits.
Question: Are the Baltimore City School Police real Police Officers?
Answer: Yes, we are! Baltimore City School Police Officers have peace officer status pursuant to the Annotated Code of Maryland. Our school police officers are required by state law to the same basic academy training as Baltimore City Police Officers. We are also mandated to attend yearly in-service training.
Question: Can school police officers conduct traffic stops and write traffic citations?
Answer: Yes we can and we do in some instances to ensure that the traffic flow not only on and upon school properties but also within the limits of the City of Baltimore.
Question: Can school police officers make arrests off school property?
Answer: Yes, our primary jurisdiction is school property, but as first responders we have a responsibility to take action when necessary to restore order and take appropriate actions.
