Mission Statement:

The mission of the Department of Facilities Design and Construction is to provide the finest environments possible for learning that support the educational mission of the Baltimore City Public School System.

What We Do:

The Department of Facilities Design and Construction is the full service in-house architectural and A Housing being built engineering design and construction management firm of the Baltimore City Public School System. We have the capability to analyze facility challenges, propose viable solutions and design, document and implement those decisions.

The Department of Facilities Design and Construction, in conjunction with the Department of Facilities Planning, analyzes the facility needs for our schools. We confirm and document existing conditions, assist in the creation of an architectural program for Educational Specifications, undertake Feasibility Studies, make facilities recommendations and determine implementation plans.

The staff of the Department of Facilities Design and School Construction consists of experienced professionals licensed in the fields of architecture, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, structural engineering and senior staff with significant experience in construction management. We have the expertise to provide full service design and documentation services and management of the entire construction process.

In close cooperation with the Department of Facilities Operation and Maintenance, our department assists in the investigation of facility system failures and makes recommendations for their repair. We provide technical assistance in the standardization of Construction materials and methods. The design group also discusses future building systems with the operation and maintenance group to ensure that lessons learned from previous experiences are incorporated into the design process.
