What We Do:  

• Represent the Board and its employees or agents in Federal, State, local and administrative proceedings
• Provide legal advice to schools and administrative offices on a broad range of issues, including federal and state education law, employment law, intellectual property law, school governance, constitutional law and charter schools
• Represent the CEO in student disciplinary hearings
• Represent the CEO in employee disciplinary and grievance matters
• Negotiate, draft and review contracts and Memoranda of Understanding
• Provide advice and counsel to the CEO, the Board and management on school redistricting, school closings, real estate transactions, facility use, procurement and insurance issues
• Assist the Board and CEO in updating and developing Board policies and administrative regulations
• Process Public Information requests
• Provide training on legal issues impacting the school environment
• Provide legal advice to IEP teams and administrative staff regarding the implementation of special education laws and regulations, and investigate and respond to MSDE complaints
• Represent the BCPSS in due process mediations and administrative hearings
