Mission Statement:
The Department of Grants Administration will systematically seek, secure, maintain and manage grant funds obtained and used to supplement fair student funding. The department supports schools and departments in their pursuit and acquisition of funding opportunities from Federal, State, and other governmental units, along with corporate and private foundations in order to advance major system priorities and school improvement plans, enhance professional development efforts, and improve student achievement.
What We Do:
The Department of Grants Administration is designated as the centralized location for the coordination of all grant activity for the BCPSS. The department is responsible for investigation and identification of grant opportunities, distribution of grant information, coordination and assistance with the application, grant approval process, budgeting, fiscal reporting, program evaluation and marketing grant activities. The department proactively identifies and pursues funding opportunities with private organizations and governmental agencies while remaining active in representing the System’s interest in legislation.
The department provides the overall leadership in implementing and monitoring the grant management process and ensuring the process is functioning effectively and efficiently. In addition, the department has a high degree of interaction with management, program managers, principals, and external funding organizations at the federal, state, and private foundation level.
The department provides for coordination, oversight and monitoring of grant application and administration activities efficiently while providing clear responsibilities and contacts for external organizations. The department consists of four distinct teams working together as a cohesive unit implementing the total grant process from the pre-award stage to the final close-out stage: Grants Acquisition; Grants Management; Grants Budget; and Grants Accounting.
- Grants Acquisition– This team helps teachers, administrators and staff within the Baltimore City Public School System with the entire grant application.
- Grants Management – This team provides technical assistance, interpreting grantor’s compliance and regulatory guidance, and support to grant managers during implementing and monitoring of the grant.
- Grants Budget – This team works directly with grant managers regarding all aspects of grant budgets, from the pre-award to the close-out stage of the grant process.
- Grants Accounting – This team works in conjunction with the Grants Budget and Grants Management teams to ensure that all grant funds are utilized within the specified grant period and that all monies are spent according to the grant’s guidelines. This team also provides all monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting to grantors and auditors.
