Grade 4
Fourth graders read a variety of fiction and nonfiction, plays, and poetry. Reading skills include breaking down unknown words, reading with comprehension, and increasing vocabulary words. Writing, speaking, and listening skills are further refined. Students conduct science experiments and learn about the human body, transportation technology, and electricity. They solve computation problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. In social studies, children study Maryland and compare it to other parts of the world.
