Qualifications for Substitute Teachers Proof of education – Official transcripts or diploma required (minimum 30 college credits) Two current professional letters of reference Eligibility Interview (school-based) Criminal Background and Medical Clearance Qualifications Daily Rate Long-Term Daily Rates 30 college credits or more (less than Bachelor Degree) $50.00 Not eligible for long-term monetary adjustment Non-degree School of Education Student (minimum 60 college credits) $60.00 Not eligible for long-term monetary adjustment Bachelor Degree or above (without Maryland Teacher Certification) $75.00 $100.00 Bachelor Degree or above (with Maryland Teacher Certification) $85.00 $110.00 Definition of Long-term is more than 10 days.  Special Note:  The rate adjustment is effective only when the employee works ten (10) consecutive days, at the same school, in the same classroom. Day one to day ten the employee will receive the daily rate.
