POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

The Chief Executive Officer, Baltimore City Public School System, is seeking individuals meeting the minimum qualifications for the following position:


EDUCATIONAL SPECIALIST I - HIGH SCHOOL SOCIAL STUDIES
($63,599 - 93,867)

Provides professional support and assistance in the systemic implementation of secondary social studies educational programs and initiatives.   Assists in the development, evaluation, and revision curriculum materials and student assessments and benchmarks to reflect the Maryland Voluntary State Curriculum and Core Learning Goals.  Delivers professional development for administrators, school-based professional developers, and classroom teachers to enhance the knowledge and competency in elementary or secondary social studies educational programs.

Qualified applicants must have the following minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social studies education or a related field
  • Valid Standard Professional Certificate from the Maryland State Department of Education with an endorsement in social studies
  • One year teaching experience in secondary social studies education
  • Experience in developing curricula and providing professional development for teachers
  • Knowledge of the Maryland Voluntary State Curriculum and Core Learning Goals for applicable subject areas
  • Knowledge of curriculum development and test creation
  • Knowledge of effective student, school, and district assessment tools
  • Knowledge of current trends and research in elementary or secondary social studies education and instruction
  • Interpersonal, organizational, leadership skills that ensure effective team building and understanding of the collaborative team planning process
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in the use of computer applications, including Microsoft Office
  • Ability to develop innovative and creative programs in elementary or secondary social studies education
  • Ability to provide non-evaluative support and coaching to teachers, school-based professional developers and administrators
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a variety of individuals in various roles, including community agencies and the business community
