POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

The Chief Executive Officer, Baltimore City Public School System, is seeking individuals meeting the minimum qualifications for the following position:


STAFF SPECIALIST - DIETARY SERVICES
($67,414-$99,502)

Responsible for the planning of breakfast and lunch menus; creating specifications and estimating needs of contracted food supplies; providing, as a Registered Dietitian, dietary expertise for the school community; and promoting school meals and healthy eating.  Originates and implements breakfast, lunch, and snack menus that: meet federal regulatory standards, enable Food and Nutrition to meet its budget, and satisfy the tastes of students.  Conducts federally mandated nutrient analyses of all menus as planned, served, and revised; manages the effective use of USDA commodities to maximize their benefits to the school meal program.  Researches, evaluates, and recommends new foods, menus, and school meal program options; coordinates testing and evaluation of current menu items and possible new products with regard to specification compliance, quality standards, and student acceptance/satisfaction.  Creates specifications and prepares the estimated needs of contracted food supplies; writes and distributes periodic written communications to all cafeterias to facilitate food preparation, utilization, and service; visits schools for onsite evaluation of the operation to include menus, food quality and preparation, and customer acceptance.

Qualified applicants must have the following minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition or a related field.
  • American Dietetic Association registration as a dietitian.
  • Five years experience as a dietitian or in food service management, experience in school food service preferred.
  • Strong and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Maryland Non-Commercial or equivalent out-of-state driver’s license.
  • National Restaurant Association ServSafe Certification or its equivalent by the time of interview.
