POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

The Chief Executive Officer, Baltimore City Public Schools , is seeking individuals meeting the minimum qualifications for the following position:


TEACHER - ALTERNATIVE OPTIONS PROGRAMS
($39,546-$77,496)

Works in collaboration with the Office of Extended Learning to plan and implement an instructional program and provide related educational services for students in alternative education programs. Provides school based program leadership and support to program/school staff, parent groups, business and community groups, and students regarding AOP and initiatives.  Manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, and modifies instructional activities as required.  Carries out a variety of student monitoring and control activities.  Creates and delivers lesson plans to classes to assist students in identifying their career interests; coordinates the development and implementation of student employability activities such as student career inventories, resumes, mock interviews, portfolios and senior projects.  Assists in organizing and coordinating student job shadowing, internship, and other work based experiences; facilitates interdisciplinary activities that connect outside learning experiences with the school curriculum. 

Qualified applicants must have the following minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree preferably in secondary education
  • Valid Maryland State Department of Education standard professional teaching certificate
  • Experience working with public school personnel and members of the business community
  • Experience with school to careers programs
  • Knowledge of federal laws protecting the educational services for students with disabilities
  • Knowledge of adolescent growth and development
  • Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills
  • Ability to work independently in the design, implementation, and evaluation of alternative education program strategies
  • Ability to select instructional planning, management, and evaluation procedures that relate to students needs and the demands of the instructional environment
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on program objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents
  • Ability to move about in room to check student work and monitor behavior
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents
