Child Abuse

• All individuals are legally and morally responsible for reporting suspected child abuse and neglect. Permission is not required.
• Unless involved in the complaint, the principal must be notified about the report.
• Prior to contacting the Department of Social Services or Baltimore Police Department, obtain all identification where possible.
• Information should be telephoned to Child Protective Services at 410-361-2235 immediately. A written report will be submitted to the Department of Social Services within 48 hours.
• All records and reports concerning child abuse and neglect are confidential, and unauthorized disclosure is a criminal offense.
• When school personnel or volunteers are unsure if abuse or neglect has taken place, the situation should be discussed with the Department of Social Services or the social worker. Failure by school staff to report suspected child abuse or neglect may result in suspension or dismissal. Additionally, the educator's certificate may be suspended or revoked.
