Fort Worthington Elementary/Middle School

#85

Fort Worthington Elementary/Middle School, affectionately known as The Fort, boasts an entirely new building, with sustainable infrastructure - including flexible, adaptive space; interactive, collaborative learning spaces; and features such as a community center, full-service health suite, library/media center, makerspace, gymnasium with rubberized floor for roller skating, and outdoor learning areas. The school has also adopted a lot across from the school, which serves as a community garden for the entire neighborhood with plots for families to grow their own food. Exemplifying a vision of academic excellence, the school is implementing project-based learning in alignment with the Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards in addition to Wit & Wisdom, City Schools’ adopted curriculum in English language arts. In support of City Schools’ student wholeness initiative, The Fort is a restorative practices intensive site, focusing on the social and emotional wellness of all scholars and their families.
