 August 3, 2016

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students:

It is hard to believe but it is that time of year again - the beginning of a new school year. Welcome back to the 2016-2017 school year. Parents as our partners in education, you are just as important to your child’s education as we are. Your child will receive the best education when you and our committed teachers work together as a team. Together we can achieve success! As the principal of Augusta Fells Savage Institute of Visual Arts (AFSIVA), I can truly say personally that our school’s commitment to excellence is unsurpassed.

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, you should know that we are working to ensure that our students have educational opportunities that will ensure a platform for success. The faculty and staff have worked enthusiastically throughout the summer to develop procedures and protocols that will promote continued growth for each and every individual at our school.

Student success is the goal of every staff member at AFSIVA. We believe with our new structure and dedication to high quality, research-based best practices, every student will learn to his or her fullest potential. We are prepared to offer time and support as needed. I ask for your support and participation in this effort by sending your child to school every day, on time and assisting with the monitoring of their educational endeavors.

We have an outstanding school, but I believe that we can always improve.  As such, please continue to support our school through our Family and Community Engagement (FCE) initiatives and take advantage of the numerous opportunities to volunteer. In order to achieve the maximum educational growth for your child, a collaborative partnership between you and our school is needed and encouraged. Your involvement with your child’s education is vital to his/her academic success.

Please note our school’s hours have changed!  School will start promptly at 8:15 a.m. and will be dismissed at 3:05p.m.

Uniforms are on sale at the school!  Please visit the school any weekday between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to buy uniforms at our special Back-to-School prices.

We continue to press forward knowing that this year will continue to yield promising results for our school. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at 443-240-3881 or by e-mail at thicks@bcps.k12.md.us.

I look forward to a banner year!
