Welcome to Patterson High School!
August 5, 2014
Greetings to all Faculty, Staff, Students, Parents, and Community Stakeholders!
It brings me great joy and honor to welcome you to the 2014-2015 school year here at your Patterson High School. In our collective commitment to become a Top 500 school in this nation, we have experienced many successes leading us to this upcoming school year. Our school has grown to become a place where teachers want to teach and students want to learn. My service and duty as the school’s principal is met with great pleasure and enthusiastic pride! I am very proud of the many accomplishments and accolades we have received over the past years.
As our international population continues to grow, our ESOL program will continue to meet the needs of our students and continue to be the district’s Flag Ship program. Our newcomers and emergent programs give our international students the best opportunity to improve their academic, social, and emotional skills to allow a steady progression to the general student body. As Baltimore City School’s most diverse high school, we offer our students programs designed to inspire responsibility, togetherness and having high expectations for academic achievement. The newly added programs for this school year will give our students a well-rounded educational experience both academically and culturally. Returning initiatives such as our Mindful Moment and Patterson 4 Peace (P4P) programs encourages our students to become self-aware, self-healing, and promote a school environment of acceptance and togetherness.
I am excited about the upcoming school year and the opportunity our students will have to receive a dynamic educational experience. Because of the gains we’ve experienced in many areas of our school’s overall performance; I’m confident that the 2014-2015 school year will be a rewarding year for our students, staff, and all community stakeholders. Our teachers are dynamic staff members who are eager to inspire and prepare our students to meet the Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards.
Our overall school performance has seen many gains and highlights. We graduated 92% of our twelfth grade students and saw our students’ reading levels improve, on average, 3 grade levels over the course of one school year. Our overall attendance rate continued its steady improvement as we saw our 9th grade promotion rate improve by 20% from the previous school year.
As we continue our relentless pursuit to becoming a Top500 school in the nation, we are eager to face the challenges of school reform and expected outcomes in student achievement. Our culture and climate must be intact and conducive to maximum learning. There will be a STRICT ADHERENCE to the district’s dress code policy. Students will be held responsible in adhering to the policy. Therefore, Patterson High School’s school uniform is strongly encouraged to be worn daily.
