February 2, 2016
Dear Parents/ Guardians:
As we move into the second month of this New Year, we will continue embracing our school theme “Transforming Young Lives to Create a Brighter Future.” Our charge as educators in the state of Maryland is to implement the Common Core State Standards so that our children are College and Career Ready. The staff of Woodhome is dedicated to the charge; therefore, our school-wide focus will be providing enriched instruction that will meet the needs of your individual child through in-depth intervention and cross-curricular instruction.
The month of February is a month to reflect, love and make connections. It will be a time for us to show students that we are involved, care about them and connected with you as a team to make life better for them. We will do this by opening our doors to you as a partner in their learning and academic growth. The students were assessed in the content areas of Mathematics, Reading/Language Arts and Science, during the month of January. The assessments are known as interims, which gives us a clear understanding of student progress as we approach the mid-year point in the school year. The staff and I will analyze and share the progress of the students with you during parent/teacher conferences. This formalized information will help us to determine if any what in-depth interventions we need to implement for the further academic growth of students.
Daily attendance and arriving on time to school is very important for the academic growth of the student as well. Our school-wide attendance has been around 94% since the beginning of the school year. We would like to reach the school-wide goal of 96% or greater. I am asking that you please be sure your child comes to school each day in uniform, rested and ready to learn on time. We do not want any student to miss significant instructional time. We also ask that you support us by making sure your child
completely understands that school is a primary focus for a successful future. This will be a school year that will bring freshness to the Woodhome School through a new instructional program and extra-curricular activities. Let’s continue to partner together to ensure a quality education for our students to be College and Career Ready.
Thank you for being a part of the Woodhome family. We look forward to your continued support because we cannot work alone to make sure our children have an opportunity to fulfill their dreams and aspirations.
Mrs. Shontel Douglas
